City of Longview hosting spring break activities: What to know, where to go

The city of Longview is hosting several activities during spring break, which began Monday. Here is a breakdown of what to do.
Tuesday
Springtime Story Time will take place at the Longview Public Library, 222 W. Cotton St., at 10:30 a.m. The event will include singing, dancing, reading and learning activities. It’s recommended for children ages 5 and under, and there is no cost to participate.
Family BINGO will take place at the Broughton Recreation Center, 801 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, from 2-3 p.m. There is no cost to participate. Prizes will be awarded to some lucky participants.
Wednesday
The Longview Kite Festival was scheduled for Wednesday but has been postponed to Friday because of weather.
Lady Chops, who was scheduled to perform during the Longview Kite Festival, will instead perform at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Broughton Recreation Center. Elizabeth Vidos, also known as Lady Chops, has a one-woman drumming show and previously performed in the off-Broadway show “STOMP.”
Thursday
The library will host Family Movie Day with a screening of “Zootopia 2,” rated PG. Showings will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. There is no charge to attend the events, and seating is limited. Limited amounts of free popcorn will be served.
Friday
The library will host Crafty Kids Time. Children can stop by the library’s youth services desk to make a project at a crafting station. Projects will be available for children ages 6 and under. All supplies are provided. The projects are available from 10 a.m. to noon while supplies last.
The Longview Kite Festival will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at Lear Park. The annual event includes activity booths, vendors and food trucks. Families are invited to bring kites to fly. Participants are encouraged to wear sunscreen. There is no cost to attend the event, which is open to people of all ages.
The library will host Family Game Day from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Families can play board games with family members, friends and new peers with the library’s selection of games, and people can bring their own games. There is no cost to participate.
Saturday
The library will host LEGO-A-THON, giving people a chance to play with the library’s large LEGO collection, including DUPLO blocks for children. Raffle prizes will be drawn for every hour of the event, which begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. The event is open to people of all ages, and there is no cost to participate.
March 16
For students who might have a late spring break week, the library will host a Bonus Video Game Day March 16. People ages 8-17 can stop by the library to play in the Super Smash Bros. Tournament from 2 to 4 p.m. There is no cost to participate.
